Kidnapping drama, fake pregnancy, bride-swapping – five TV tropes we want freedom from

The heroine rising from the dead to slay her enemies, the vamp screaming that she’s preggers; there are some cliches that simply refuse to leave TV shows. Every year, we feel the makers will come up with something new but sadly that does not happen. Here are five cliches that we need freedom from this Independence Day…

Fake pregnancy
If the 70’s and 80’s gave us the cliche of “Anjaane Main Bhool”, then fake pregnancy is something that is rampant in TV shows. When a vamp tries to win over the hero but fails miserably, the last resort is fake pregnancy. Recently, we saw how Daadi felt that Naira was (Shivangi Joshi) pregnant in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and how Mansi faked that she was expecting just to get married to Anmol. Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, Ishqbaaaz, Dil Bole Oberoi have all used the concept of fake pregnancy for various purposes. What is annoying is that the male character does not even remember the night when they might have made out with such results. And it is even more irritating to see how coolly the male lead takes on the responsibility.

Bride – swapping
It is extremely easy to switch places with the dulhan on the altar if Indian TV is to be believed. Incidentally, bride-swapping is one of the highest TRP raking mechanisms for any show. Uttaran, Naamkarann, Swaragini, Udaan, Sasural Simar Ka – the examples are countless. We wonder how the other girl manages to find that precise moment when she can replace the other one. We always thought that a would-be bride is always surrounded by a host of friends, cousins, etc and has a chaperone 24×7 on her wedding day.

Rising from the dead
When your enemies are relentless, you rely on the smartest of tricks, which is to fake your demise. Ishita (Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya) is the queen of this. She once died and returned literally from the funeral pyre. Even Shivaay faked losing his life in Ishqbaaaz. Like bride-swapping, this track also gets a lot of eyeballs, which is why special promos are cut for fake deaths!

Love triangles amongst siblings
We have seen how viewers are repulsed with the idea of an extramarital affair but are surprisingly cool about two siblings falling for the same man or woman. In Swaragini, we had two cousin brothers going crazy about the same girl while BFFs Iccha – Tapasya also fell for the same guy, Veer in Uttaran. We also saw how a loving relationship slowly changed into a hateful one as Chakor – Imli switched husbands in Udaan. Even in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, cousins Gayatri (Kanchi Singh) and Naira fell for Kartik (Mohsin Khan). A supernatural drama like Naagin too wasn’t spared as Shesha (Adaa Khan) and Shivanya (Mouni Roy) went mad over Ritik (Arjun Bijlani).

Kidnapping drama
Like bride swapping, kidnapping too happens any time any where. And the best part is that kidnapping seems to be the activity of first time criminals on TV shows. You surely do not need any proficiency for this.

Mitron Trailer: Jackky Bhagnani and Kritika Kamra’s remake of the Telugu hit Pelli Choopulu looks faithful to the original

The trailer of Mitron is out today. The film stars Jackky Bhagnani and Kritika Kamra in lead roles. It is the official remake of the Vijay Deverakonda film, Pelli Choopulu that had Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in lead roles. We see Jackky as a lazy good for nothing Gujarati boy whose father believes he will improve in life only after he gets married. They take him to meet a girl for marriage. This is Kritika’s debut film and the screen simply lights up when she is on it. The actress always had fab screen presence and it is evident here.

We see how the two become friends and start a flourishing business. The premise is just like the original. The film has a light breezy vibe to it, which is very refreshing. Also, the humour is organic and leaves you with a smile. The film is directed by Nitin Kakkar. Kritika was supposed to make her Bollywood debut with Ekta Kapoor’s Badtameez Dil but that did not take off. On TV, she was last seen on Chandrakanta. The film is shot in Siddhpur, where a chunk of Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees was also filmed. Stay tuned to BL for more updates!

‘Every actor’s journey starts from the footpath,’ Rithvik Dhanjani reminisces a friend’s pep talk at TedX

Of late, we have seen TV stars like Ravi Dubey and Benafsha Soonawalla delivering speeches at Ted X. One of the recent ones to do so is Rithvik Dhanjani. He was invited by Ted X recently where he spoke about his struggle before making a name for himself in the industry. As we know, Rithvik hails from an affluent business family and spent his early days in Dubai. While giving a chat, Rithvik spoke about the times that made him a strong individual. “It had taken me around a good three years to convince my father to give me a chance to go to Mumbai and try my hand at acting.  I came to Mumbai with just 5,000 rupee a month allowance. After staying at a friend’s place for two months without paying rent, one day suddenly auntie asked me to start paying rent from the following month. With hardly any money in my pocket, I was left in a dilemma. What added to it was that I was locked out of the house that night and hence walking towards the station.  I was sitting at a railway station at 3 AM in the morning, at rock bottom when I called my childhood friend Jayesh.” (Also Read: Anita Hassanandani, Divyanka Tripathi, Rithvik Dhanjani are our TV Instagrammers of the week!)

The actor elaborates how his friend’s pep talk inspired him to survive in this world. He said, “That day what he told me was so so so important for me at that time.  I realized the true power of words!  Jayesh said every actor’s journey starts from the footpath, and after a few years when I am bigger and in a good place, I definitely will have this story to tell! That just ignited the fire I had in me!  And now here I am, narrating this story to all of you on this platform.” We are sure that many struggling actors will identify with what Rithvik said on the platform. Taimur’s love for yoga rubs off on cousin Inaaya, who does her own version of stretch – view pics!

Taimur Ali Khan and Inaaya Naumi Kemmu are the cutest cousins in town. We often marvelled at how identical they were in looks, but now it is evident that the two have similar interest. Well, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu was clicked today morning taking a ride in her colourful stroller. She was dressed in a pair of grey pants with a blush pink tee. Rainbow coloured socks added a pop of colour. On her stroller, Inaaya felt like a queen as she enjoyed the pleasant weather outside. The little one was seen stretching her legs to near perfection. She was accompanied by her nanny and other staff members. Few days back, Saif Ali Khan spoke about how Taimur eagerly watches Kareena Kapoor Khan and him doing yoga. He said the tiny tot also imitates the noises the actor makes during stretching. He said, “He (Taimur) imitates us doing yoga by making some painful noises which obviously, I’m making while I’m stretching. He does a good side bend and falls over.” (Also Read: Exclusive A man forcibly tries to take a selfie with Taimur Ali Khan now little nawab will get a bodyguard soon)

We can see that Inaaya is quite a pro at stretching. It is not surprising as her mum Soha Ali Khan swears by yoga and does not miss her workout for even a day. The little ones Inaaya and Taimur love to spend time with each other. Soha says that Taimur is fond of her and hopes that he will be a protective elder brother to her. Taimur had already enrolled in an kiddie gym aimed at physical development for toddlers. Inaaya and Taimur both enjoy swimming too. We saw how Taimur tried to play badminton a few days back holding a racquet in his hand. Stay tuned to BL for more updates!
