As Aamir Khan’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak clocks in 30 years, Mansoor Khan reveals the movie was supposed to have a happy ending

Filmmaker Mansoor Khan says the film “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” was supposed to initially have a happy ending but looking at the drift of the film, he gave it a sad climax. Directed by Mansoor, written and produced by his father Nasir Hussain, the film released in 1988. It was a blockbuster which catapulted Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla to stardom. The plot was a modern-day take on classic tragic romance stories such as Laila and Majnu, Heer Ranjha and Romeo and Juliet.

“Although my father had initially planned to end the movie on a sad note, he seemed skeptical about the climax and asked us to shoot another ending. However, the flow of the movie gave a feeling that there might be some tragedy soon. Hence, I opted to close the movie the way Romeo and Juliet ended,” Mansoor said in a statement.

The film will be aired on Zee Classic to commemorate its 30th year of release on Sunday.

Did you know Shakti Kapoor’s Crime Master Gogo had replaced Amrish Puri’s Zorambo in Andaz Apna Apna?

“Andaz Apna Apna” was originally planned with Amrish Puri playing ‘Zorambo’, an antithesis to his iconic Mogambo from “Mr India”, a new book says. But the character could not make it to the big screen due to length issues of the film, according to “In A Cult of Their Own: Bollywood Beyond Box Office”. The book, by Amborish Roychoudhury, also reveals how the iconic character of Crime Master Gogo, played by Shakti Kapoor, came into being.

The film starred Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Viju Khote and Shahzad Khan. Upon release in 1994, the comic caper had an underwhelming show at the box office but eventually achieved a cult status. Rajkumar Santoshi, the director of the film, had originally planned to create a Bizarro-like character for Mogambo. Bizarro, a fictional supervillain appearing in DC comic books, is the “mirror image” of Superman.  Zorambo was the bumbling twin, who speaks and behaves the exact opposite. A perennially upset character whose pet-phrase was ‘Zorambo khush nahi hua’ opposite to that of ‘Mogambo khush hua’.

“Mogambo used to wear black, Zorambo wore white. Mogambo had white hair, Zorambo had black hair… Always serious, never smiles. Amar and Prem used to say, ‘Kisi tarah khush karo yaar isko’ (Do something to please him). It was like that,” Santoshi is quoted saying by Roychoudhury in the book. We had spoken to Amrish Puri and everything. But then we thought length-wise it is not working. But Crime Master Gogo was always a part of the script. He had a small part,” Santoshi adds.

But when Zorambo did not work out, Santoshi gave it a twist, according to Aamir. “(Zorambo was) kinda like Mogambo in ‘Mr. India’, asks people to jump into boiling water and all. I forget exactly what the scene was now but basically we meet him for the first time and he comes and stands in front of us, face to face.

“And when you cut to a wide shot you realise he is standing on a table. He is actually a dwarf,” says Aamir. However, things did not work out and the dwarf character was cut out from the script and enter Crime Master Gogo.

Initially, Gogo was to be played by Tinnu Anand , who Aamir says was “very good and fantastic” in that character.  “Yes. In fact when it was reshot, by then Tinnu’s dates were unavailable. We got everyone’s dates but Tinnu’s. And since he was otherwise not in the film, Raj said we’ll take Shakti Kapoor,” says Aamir.

The cape-wearing Gogo went on to become so popular that his one-liners became part of public lingo, that cracks people up even now.  The book, by Rupa Publications, is a tongue-in-cheek ode to the cult Hindi movies.

Amitabh Bachchan sends out a hilarious job application to work with Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif – check tweet

Amitabh Bachchan is one of those few actors who manages to crack us up on social media. This time, it’s not because a fellow actor forgot to reply to his messages but Big B actually sent out a job application. A newspaper put up a story about how Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif are too tall for Aamir Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Big B shared the clipping of the article and captioned it with his resume. It is the wittiest and best thing on the internet today. It definitely made our Sunday even better. He wrote down why he is perfect to act opposite the two sexy ladies in future films.

This is what the tweet read, ” Job Application : Name : Amitabh Bachchan DOB : 11.10.1942, Allahabad Age : 76 yrs Credentials : worked in films for 49 years , IN APPROX 200 FILMS Speaks ; Hindi, English, Punjabi, Bengali HEIGHT : 6’2” .. Available .. YOU SHALL NEVER HAVE HEIGHT PROBLEM !!!” Now that’s good humour. Big B found the story so amusing that he decided to cut it and save it which is rather sweet. But we can’t stop laughing at this. This is the most hilarious response to a story. We wonder how Aamir and Shahid are going to react to this. Check out Big B’s tweet right here.

We also also curious to see how Deepika and Kat will respond to this. The senior actor has worked with both the ladies before. In fact, he is doing Thugs Of Hindostan with Katrina Kaif and Aamir Khan at present. We have seen him play Deepika’s father in Piku, which was a very entertaining film. But we wouldn’t mind seeing Sr Bachchan in a couple of more films with the two women. What are your thoughts on Big B’s job application? Tell us in the comments below and stay tuned with us for more.

Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim’s Secret Superstar crosses the Rs 750 crore mark in China

Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim’s Secret Superstar has achieved yet another milestone at the Chinese box office. The musical drama has now crossed the Rs 750 crore benchmark there. With the humungous contribution China, Secret Superstar has become the third Indian film to cross the Rs 900 crore mark globally after Dangal and Baahubali 2.

Despite many new releases, Secret Superstar has remained strong for four weeks at the Chinese box office which is truly commendable. The film has once again showed the popularity of Aamir Khan in China through its mind-boggling collections. Despite only being a cameo, the audience went to the cinema halls to watch him on the silver screen. After PK and Dagal, Secret Superstar is the third consecutive success film of Aamir Khan in the Chinese market. Secret Superstar was made on the shoe-string budget of Rs 15 crore including promotion and advertising and with this kind of numbers, we are sure that the makers are on cloud nine. Despite its strong hold, we doubt the film will achieve the Rs 1000 crore milestone at the box office as Black Panther, which is set to hit the screens tomorrow may affect the business of Secret Superstar. By looking at the stupendous response for Bollywood films, Salman Khan is also releasing his 2015 blockbuster Bajrangu Bhaijaan in China on March 2. With around 8000 screens, we are expecting the film to repeat the success of Dangal and Secret Superstar
