Bhavesh Joshi Actor To Play Drug Peddler In A British Film

Actor Ashish Verma, who has been receiving rave reviews for his role in “Bhavesh Joshi Superhero“, will play a drug peddler who carries a specific type of drug that can make people see the future, in a British film titled “Imperial Blue“.

It is not the lead role but an important one.

“I am playing Sanjay, a drug peddler, who carries the drug, which makes one see the future. As far as playing the protagonist is concerned, every actor would love to play the protagonist and with changing time, you see a lot of films which no longer subscribe to the typical notion of a ‘hero’, ‘Bhavesh Joshi…’ being one of them,” Ashish told IANS in an email interview.

Indians are generally stereotyped in the West. How is his role in “Imperial Blue” going to break that?

“When you are a minority or are different from others, you are often seen in a specific way. This is applicable at a macro as well as a micro level and this leads to stereotyping,” he said.

“As far as my role is concerned, my character is an Indian, in India. Me and the director Dan (Moss) were on the same page as far as the pitching was concerned. It was to keep it as real as possible and not to cater to a perception or an ‘idea’ of an Indian,” added the actor, best known for featuring in the digital project “InMates”.

The casting of “Imperial Blue” happened in India.

“The ‘Imperial Blue’ casting process was very interesting. During the audition, me and my co-actor played the scene in many languages…in English, the way it was written and in our native languages, mine being Hindi and his being Swedish,” he said.

Ashish has also worked as a casting director.

“Gurvinder Singh, the director of ‘Anhey Ghore Da Daan‘ and ‘Chauthi Koot‘ was a friend of mine as well as a senior from Film and Television Institute of India. He asked me to come on board for the films, and I am glad I did. I saw it as an opportunity to learn,” said the actor.

“We were mainly working with non-actors and a part of my job was to cast, as well as to make them act. Since the language was Punjabi it was quite challenging. So I started to pick up the language.”

He had never imagined that making non-actors act would be so enriching as at times, they “subconsciously bring out nuances which professional actors struggle to”.

He has also been writing dialogues for feature films.

“‘The Hungry’ is one of them. As far as producing is concerned, I limit myself to the creative end of the deal…like developing web shows for platforms,” said Ashish.

Poor response leads to Bhavesh Joshi Superhero shows being replaced by Veere Di Wedding

As expected, it was not a wise decision for Bhavesh Joshi Superhero makers to clash with Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Veere Di Wedding at the box office. While the female buddy comedy raked in Rs 36.52 crore in its opening weekend, the Harshvardhan Kapoor-starrer earned merely Rs 1 crore in the first three days of release. By looking at such a poor response and no footfalls, many cinema owners cancelled Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’s shows and replaced it with Veere Di Wedding. Now the screen count of Vikramaditya’s vigilante revenge film has dropped down by 40 to 50 per cent.

Well, this is definitely not a good thing for Junior Kapoor as his both films Mirzya and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero failed miserably at the box office. Despite getting decent reviews, Harsh’s latest flick didn’t attract the audience due to its niche appeal and no star power. As per Midday, an official person from a multiplex said, “The morning shows of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero have been cancelled as we hardly had any audience opting for it. We have added more shows of Veere Di Wedding instead.” (Also Read: Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor’s Veere Di Wedding grosses over Rs 73 crore at the worldwide box office)

In fact, compared to Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, holdover releases like Raazi, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran and Deadpool 2 are still going strong at the box office. We hope that Harshvardhan Kapoor gets his first success with Abhinav Bindra biopic, which is expected to go on floors very soon. Anyway, do you think Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, would have performed better if it had a solo release? Share your thoughts in the comments section below…

What’s brewing? Isabelle Kaif and Harshvardhan Kapoor spotted hanging out together – view pics

Well, well, well! What do we have here? This is an unlikely outing that we did not see coming. Katrina Kaif’s beautiful sister Isabelle Kaif was spotted hanging out with Sonam Kapoor’s handsome brother Harshvardhan Kapoor last night. They were spotted at private screening theatre in Juhu. They left together after, watching Harshvardhan’s latest release Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. Maybe they are meeting up to discuss a new project together. That would be so cool! Or maybe…they are “just friends”.

Well, whatever the reason is, this set of pictures has certainly given Bollywood an idea about a new pair. From this extremely brief glimpse, we can say that these two will look good together on screen. Check out the pictures of Harshvardhan and Isabelle arriving together in a car.

On the work front, Harshvardhan is getting mixed reviews for his film Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, which has been directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. He will be next seen in the Abhinav Bindra biopic, tentatively titled Bindra. Isabelle made her acting debut with Dr. Cabbie and made her magazine debut with GQ India’s May 2018 issue. She is eyeing for Bollywood now and hopes to make her big debut this year. She will be seen in dance film Time to Dance, to be helmed by Stanley D’Costa. She will share the frame with actor Sooraj Pancholi in the movie. Eagerly looking forward to their next projects.
Harshvardhan’s name has been previously linked to Sara Ali Khan, Sapna Pabbi and Rhea Chakraborty. Though, he has never opened up about his dating life.

Box office occupancy report: Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Veere Di Wedding off to a flying start

Today we witnessed the clash of the siblings at the box office with Veere Di Wedding and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. While the Sonam and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer opened with a phenomenal response, Harshvardhan Kapoor’s film opened on a low note at the ticket windows.

Our trade expert Akshaye Rathi said, ” Veere Di Wedding has opened with a superior occupancy at the box office. The film’s marketing and the novelty value has generated a lot of buzz and it should come up with a good day one collection. The occupancy of the film is around 60 to 70 per cent, which is great. The film has opened well, especially in the urban market. Though the film will be dependent word of mouth to perform well at the pan India level.” (Also Read: Veere Di Wedding movie review LIVE: Here’s the first day, first show verdict of Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker’s film)

Talking about Harshvardhan Kapoor’s Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, he said, “The numbers for Bhavesh Joshi Superhero are so far, not so encouraging as its actually a non-starrer film. It will be highly relying on good word of mouth to perform well at the ticket windows.” Talking about Veere Di Wedding, the film is directed by Shashanka Bose and produced by Rhea Kapoor, Nikhil Dwivedi, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. It also stars Swara Bhasker, Shikha Talasania and Sumeet Vyas in pivotal roles. On the other hand, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is directed by Trapped and Looter helmer Vikramaditya Motwane. The film is produced under the banners of Eros International and Phantom Films. Our Editor-in-Chief, Tushar Joshim who reviewed the movie last night was impressed with Harshvardhan’s acting chops and he believes the actor successfully carried the entire movie on his able shoulders. Accrording to him, Bhavesh Joshi has moments and scenes that will resonate with a lot of socio-political issues in the country right now. Watch it if you have the palette for something different than the usual.

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero movie review: Harshvardhan Kapoor’s raw appeal saves this flawed and uneven action drama

A city engulfed by corruption, a masked hero wanting to bring reform and save his city from crumbling under the weight of greedy politicians and police officers. Bhavesh Joshi is the story of a bunch of friends – Sikander (Harshvardhan Kapoor), Bhavesh (Priyanshu Painyuli) and Rajat (Ashish Varma) who form a masked vigilante group aimed at eradicating corruption and meting out justice to the common man.

What’s it about

Sikander, Bhavesh and Rajat call themselves – Insaaf, but it doesn’t take too long for things to take a dark and twisted turn. After a local politician (Nishikant Kamat) who is involved in water trafficking and smuggling uncovers the identity of Insaaf, Bhavesh who is heading this operation meets an unfortunate fate. From here the plot shifts gears and Sikander decides to become the masked superhero who will help fulfil Bhavesh’s mission of exposing the water scam and revealing the depth to which corruption has seeped into the city.

What’s hot

Harshvardhan Kapoor seems at ease and more convincing in his role as the crime eroding superhero than his debut film Mirzya. He has a certain raw appeal that is unpolished and natural which works for his character. His transformation from being a bystander to actually taking matters into his own hands and becoming the masked vigilante is commendable. Bhavesh Joshi has the unmissable Vikramditya Motwane stamp on it. The cinematography and action scenes are major highlights – especially a long drawn bike chase scene that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Priyanshu Painyuli as Bhavesh is a revelation. He’s outstandingly good in the film and we hope to see him more often in the near future. The corruption track and a lot of dialogues in the film have a certain quality of being relatable.

What’s not

Bhavesh Joshi is way too long and the climax seems to drag on forever. Also some of the scenes in the film feel unnecessary and forced. When Sikander confronts a police officer for delaying his passport verification, the premise doesn’t seem convincing. The second half drags and brings down the otherwise decent momentum of the film. The subject of the film promised a superhero but by the time he makes his appearance we are already weary and tired. Also after establishing that he has left the country, it is difficult to believe that Sikander can walk around the city without having the fear of being discovered. There are several such loopholes in the film.

Our verdict

Bhavesh Joshi has moments and scenes that will resonate with a lot of socio-political issues in the country right now. Watch it if you have the palette for something different than the usual.

Veere Di Wedding Or Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, What’s Your Pick This Week? VOTE NOW!

After a roller coaster of 2018 in which we’ve got some amazing films, this week there’s a mini clash happening between the Kapoors. Harshvardhan Kapoor’s Bhavesh Joshi Superhero & Sonam Kapoor/Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Veere Di Wedding are clashing at the box office.

Veere Di Wedding is a coming-of-age story revolving around the lives of four friends who deal with the trials and tribulations regarding family acceptance, marriage and societal perceptions in the modern-day world. The girls openly talk about their sex lives and hurl abuses.

Veere Di Wedding is directed by Shashanka Ghosh and co-produced by Rhea Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Nikhil Dwivedi. It stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Swara Bhasker, Shikha Talsania and Sumeet Vyas..

Whereas Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is an action film about a young man who wants to continue doing the right and challenge the wrong. During this journey, he discovers that he is destined to do bigger things, which will transform him from a common man into a superhero.

Harshvardhan Kapoor, the lead of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, was recently about this clash and he said, “It is not a clash for the very simple reason that if we look at the canvas, both films are not similarly big. It is not that my Bhavesh Joshi needs 4,000 screens like it is usually needed for a Salman Khan-starrer film.”

“My film is small, with a certain target audience. The film will grow at the box office based on word of mouth. Sonam’s film is an entertaining comedy, a slice-of-life story of four girls played by stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam herself and other actresses,” he added.

“The genres are different only, so we can co-exist and we can survive,” said the 27-year-old actor.
