Avengers: Infinity War beats Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 2 and Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat

Avengers: Infinity War has done something incredible at the box office. Something that can be the case study of what the Indian market demands. The movie has beaten two of the biggest Bollywood releases – Padmaavat and Baaghi 2. After beating their opening records, AIW has managed to race ahead in terms of second-day box office collections as well by collecting Rs 61.8 crore (Rs 30.3 crore on Friday and Rs 31.5 crore on Saturday).

Padmaavat featured an ensemble of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor in lead roles, with Aditi Rai Hyadari and Jim Sarbh in key roles. The movie garnered Rs 56 crore on day 2 in India. Then there is Tiger Shroff starrer actioner Baaghi 2, which has become the biggest hit in his career, minted Rs 45.50 crore in two days. Is this an eye opener for Bollywood as to what Indian audience really want to watch? (ALSO READ: Avengers: Infinity War movie review -This film can be easily termed as the best one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe)

Avengers: Infinity War has been 10 years in the making. The story of the film is a culmination of about 17 films (excluding Ant-Man because that fellow didn’t show up this time). Looking back at the decade-long journey producer Kevin Feige has said in an interview, “In terms of [if] we could sit down and watch any movie we’ve made together and I’ll cringe at certain things and I’ll go, oh my God, oh I can’t believe we did that, I wish we had done this instead of that instead.  That’s the minutiae level.  And we…I don’t envision us doing special editions to change any of those things or anything like that.  But that’s just the nature of working on something for so long and then at a certain point you just have to send it out into the world.  In terms of big picture and looking at this Infinity War poster and all these cast members and all their costumes and all their looks and all their storylines that have brought us to this point, and I’m unbelievably proud of all of them. “(ALSO READ: 11 Avengers: Infinity War spoilers without context that will leave you scratching your head)

Ranveer Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia and Bhumi Pednekar lead the worst dressed bandwagon this week

In this bizarre world of fashion, it’s a task to put your best fashion foot forward always. There are days when you look ravishing and occasions when you simply fail to strike any chord. There’s nothing wrong in attempting something that’s horrendous for others but stylish for you. Celebs like Ranveer Singh, especially, who should be credited for making men’s fashion look so happening, end up looking weird at times and we still cheer for them. Fashion is a tricky thing to write about. What we think is unflattering can be oh-so-hot for others. No one’s ever right or wrong in it. Yet we have to pick the offenders every week and hope they don’t land in the same category in the following week. Joining the list of worst dressed this week are celebs like Ranveer Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Bhumi Pednekar, Kriti Sanon and Diana Penty. Let’s elaborate on how they went wrong and where.

Ranveer Singh

So we know Ranveer Singh is quite bold with his choices and is often applauded for making men’s fashion look so stylish, but even he has his bad days. Like the night of Gully Boy wrap up party. Pairing a yellow Gucci T-shirt with floral pants and shoes, RS looked like a garden in himself. But then again, only he’s able to pull off such gawdy attires with so much ease. Also Read: Exclusive! Dear Tamannaah, what’s wrong with you? She’s one of the frequent members to feature in worst dressed category. We try so hard every time to exclude her from our list, but she compels us to pick her every time. This Anamika Khanna creation especially looked all over the place. The attire was still fine but the pink wide belt on her waist is ruining her look further.

Bhumi Pednekar

Sorry, Bhumi Pednekar, but that’s not a red carpet outfit. You have such a great figure and you try to enhance it further. This purple off-shoulder Sameer Madan creation was too dull and boring. It could also be called as a yawn fest.

Kriti Sanon

This was a saree with pants? We guess so, but it looked unflattering to the core. The Shivam and Naresh creation didn’t let the actress flaunt her beauty, but made her look even more unimpressive. The attire was too much to carry and we hope Kriti doesn’t commit such mistakes in future. Also Read: Kriti Sanon should thank THIS actress for rejecting Bareilly Ki Barfi

Diana Penty

Diana Penty looked more like a foil than a diva in her latest outing. The Carolina Herrera one off shoulder gown failed to impress us and we wonder what was wrong with her. Diana is otherwise a stunner and we love her outings, but the recent one was a thumbs down.

Ranveer Singh goes dancing in public again, this time pays tribute to Freddie Mercury – watch video

How is this possible that Ranveer Singh at any given point in time looks like the happiest man to ever exist? Switzerland was once again in for a treat, as the actor took to the streets of Montreux, Switzerland and danced his heart out. He danced in front of the statue of Queen lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury. He did an awesome lip sync on the iconic number, “I want to break free”. And that’s not all. All this while, he was dressed in the iconic yellow jacket that Freddie Mercury is associated with. Ranveer and his flair for theatrics never fail to impress us. The world would be such a dull place without you, Ranveer.

Now, this won’t be the first time when Ranveer has put his crazy side on full display. Long back at the time of the release of the film Bang Bang, he danced dressed as Krrish on the streets of Mumbai. If was a dare by Hrithik Roshan. Then he sang Pardesi Pardesi in Switzerland in 2016. Not to forget, his chilling dance performance on Tu Mere Samne from Darr in the snowy mountains of the country.

On the work front, Ranveer Singh will be next seen in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. The movie is based on the lives of street rappers in Mumbai. It takes inspiration from the journey of popular rap artist, Divine. Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin will be seen sharing screen space with the actor. Apart from that, he will soon begin shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Simbaa. The movie will feature Sara Ali Khan as the female lead. Quite a great roster that is. Looking forward to Ranveer’s latka-jhatkas.

Avengers: Infinity War smashes the opening day collections of Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat

One of the biggest release this year was Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Padmaavat. The epic movie starred Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The movie had unimaginable hype around it thanks to its year-long brush with controversy. The movie’s opening day collection was Rs 24 crore. Well, the update is that Avengers: Infinity War has beaten that number. The movie’s box office collection on day 1 is Rs 31.3 crore. What a feat! This should be an eye-opener for Bollywood. We are looking forward to seeing what will be the weekend collection of this Marvel movie. We are sure, quite a few records will be shattered over the next two days. And lifetime collections? Let us not even get there.

Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat is not the only one Avengers: Infinity War has managed to beat. But Tiger Shroff’s biggest hit to date, Baaghi 2 has suffered the same fate. Baaghi 2’s opening day collections were Rs 25.10 crore. The movie has even smashed box office records by a movies of Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan. More update on that later.

Talking to ScreenRant, director Joe Russo has said, “We’re telling the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not the Marvel Comic Book Universe. Like growing up I’m a huge comic book fan. I still have my entire collection, in my closet. For me, I’m not interested as a director, or as a comic book fan, in any literal interpretation of a book. I know that story. I’ve read it. I’m not going to go to the theatre and be surprised by it, We’re interested in surprising you. Borrowing elements and the mojo from it but in completing this giant mosaic of the story that’s being told in these movies, not in those books, which is why Death [the character] is not in this film.”

Exclusive! Vicky Kaushal confirms he was approached for Padmaavat but does not regret losing out on it

No doubt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has turned out to become a masterpiece. I am sure most of us have still not recovered from the magic that we experienced watching Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmaavti, Ranveer Singh as the fierce Allaudin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Padmavati’s husband Raja Rawal Ratan Singh. The cast was as perfect as the film. But at one point in time, there were also speculations on how Vicky Kaushal was initially offered Shahid’s role in Padmaavat. It was reported that SLB was really keen on having him on board but for some reason,  things didn’t work out. We finally know why it didn’t work out from the man himself – Vicky Kaushal.

Confirming how he was very much approached for Padmaavat, Vicky recalls, “We were in talks, but then certain things fall in place, certain things don’t fall in place. For me, you need to try and understand, my first film came out in 2015, a small, humble film like Masaan. And if because of that one film, a director like Sanjay Leela Bhansali calls you to his office and tells you that you are a contender for a part in his next, that in itself means a huge deal for me. There I have got the film, I have lived the character, I got everything with that one call. This is not the end of the world. We’ll keep working. He (SLB) will keep making films, I will inshallah keep being a part of films and we will probably cross paths again. So these are all just a part and parcel of the industry that you are in. I absolutely have no regrets. In fact, I feel lucky that I got a call, he even thought of me. He is a director where actors are lined up to just be a part of his films. But out of everyone, the fact he just thought of me in itself is a big deal for me. I feel fortunate that such doors too are opening for me.”

Ask Vicky about the role he was offered and he adds, “It was for the Ratan Singh part(played by Shahid Kapoor). But like I said, this is the case with every next film – there are many actors in the running, then they consider other things to fit the role and finally it just falls into one person’s kitty. That’s how it goes. But I loved Padmaavat.” Hopefully, we’ll get to see Vicky and Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborate for a film soon. Your thoughts?

Exclusive! Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor to perform on THIS Anil Kapoor song at Sonam Kapoor’s sangeet

Turns out Bollywood’s Babas – Ranveer and Arjun will be stepping into their all time favourite, the legend, the one and only Anil Kapoor’s shoes for his iconic number – My Name Is Lakhan. Now although we agree the boys have performed on this track at various award shows and reality shows but then when you know it’s Anil Kapoor’s daughter’s wedding, there’s no way you can ignore this classic song. It’s a must, isn’t it? Just how excited are we to check out the inside videos from this crazy sangeet night coming up! We are sure Anil Kapoor too will join the boys to give us one memorable moment to cherish.

While Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s sangeet and reception is going to be a rather grand affair, the wedding is going to be a an intimate ceremony held at a heritage bungalow in Mumbai, with just close friends and family in attendance. Both Sonam and Anand always wanted to keep their wedding a private affair. Sonam in fact even mentioned in her recent interview, “I think there is too much money spent; it’s all very crass, and I would rather give that money away. I’d rather have a wedding at home than anywhere else. I think it’s important to do all the rituals, but I don’t believe in spending all that money, I find it disgusting and very wasteful, and I’m not okay with that at all.”

PS: Sonam and Anand will be tying the knot on May 8. Do keep watching this space for more exclusive updates on the wedding.

Padmaavat box office collection day 29: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film continues its magical run, collects Rs 281.68 crore

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat ended its fourth week at the box office on a great note. Despite having very limited screens, the costume drama remained rock-steady at the ticket window. In fact, the film has performed better than some new Bollywood releases. The magnum opus raked in around Rs 1.15 crore yesterday and now stands with the total business of Rs 281.68 crore. Since Welcome to New York and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety have released today, Padmaavat will have hardly screens to perform. Though we can still expect the film to cross Rs 285 crore mark by the end of its fifth weekend at the box office.

Featuring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, the film is currently the eighth highest grosser of all time after Baahubali 2, Dangal, PK, Tiger Zinda Hai, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Dhoom 3. The film will soon cross Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 (Rs 284.27 crore) to grab the seventh position in the list. The film is produced under the banners of Sanjay Leela Bhansali productions and Viacom 18 and also stars Jim Sarbh, Anupriya Goenka, Aditi Rao Hydari and Raza Murad in pivotal roles. Apart from the domestic market, the film performed exceptionally well at the overseas box office especially in the markets of North America, New Zealand and Australia. The story of Padmaavat revolves around menacing Sultan of Delhi Alauddin Khilji, who wishes to conquer the queen of Chittorgarh Rani Padmavati. The film is based on an epic poem written in 1540 by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi named Padmaavat. Anyway, do you think Padmaavat will enter Rs 300 crore at the ticket window?
