Veere Di Wedding and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero releasing together will be a celebration for the family, says Harshvardhan Kapoor

Actor Harshvardhan Kapoor, son of veteran actor Anil Kapoor, says his father would have been a perfect fit for the character of a common man-turned-superhero in Bhavesh Joshi Superhero had the movie been made in the 1990s.

“I think if ‘Bhavesh Joshi’ was made in the 1990s, dad would have been a very good fit for the role. He could have done it really well. Bhavesh is a young guy with lot of energy, very extrovert like how dad is. But yes, in the second half of the film, the character changes and that intensity somewhere reflects me (my personality),” Harshvardhan told IANS.

Asked if he finds anything common that he has inherited from his father as an actor, Harshvardhan said, “If we talk about our acting, it is too soon to compare. I think we have very different personalities. I cannot judge my performance, but I think Mirzya was made for me… That is pretty close to my personality as I am quiet by nature, which is why Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra sir was very insistent and quite keen to make the film with me.” ALSO READ: Harshvardhan Kapoor has a rather logical reasoning behind Bhavesh Joshi Superhero clashing with Veere Di Wedding

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is a vigilante film in which he plays the protagonist, who along with some of his friends, starts taking action against the corrupt. The film narrates how that journey transforms him from a common man to a superhero.

The film is releasing on June 1 — the same date as Harshvardhan’s elder sister Sonam Kapoor Ahuja-starrer Veere Di Wedding. The actor believes it is going to be a celebration for their family.

“It is not a clash for the very simple reason that if we look at the canvas, both films are not similarly big. It is not that my Bhavesh Joshi needs 4,000 screens like it is usually needed for a Salman Khan-starrer film. My film is small, with a certain target audience. The film will grow at the box office based on word of mouth. Sonam’s film is an entertaining comedy, a slice-of-life story of four girls played by stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam herself and other actresses. The genres are different only, so we can co-exist and we can survive,” said the 27-year-old actor.

These pictures of Sonam Kapoor will remind you of iconic golden gals like Rekha and Elizabeth Taylor

Trust Sonam Kapoor to surprise us every now and then with her fashion statements. The lady was spotted for a round of Veere Di Wedding promotions in an all-gold look. Very few women would have managed to look as gorgeous in the combo as she does. In fact, the look instantly reminds us of Rekha and the legendary Elizabeth Taylor from Cleopatra. She is wearing a Rashmi Varma fusion outfit with shoes from Ralph and Russo. The stunning earrings and hand cuffs are by Apala by Sumit and Amrapali Jewels. What is the real deal is how nicely she has done her make up. Bronzed eyeshadow, nude lips an a defined eye are all it takes to present her as a true diva. This is truly one of her best looks after tying the knot with Delhi-based entrepreneur Anand Ahuja. Unlike other years, Sonam’s looks at Cannes weren’t that talked about. The actress lists Ralph and Russo as one of her fave designers. In fact, designer Tamara Ralph was also in India for her wedding. Everyone is gaga over how stunning she is in this ensemble.  (Also Read: Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja strolling on a Sunday make for a scene straight out of a Bollywood movie ; view pic)

Sonam’s grand wedding saw in outfits from designers like Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Anuradha Vakil and Anamika Khanna. She had kept it simple and elegant all through. This look will surely be talked about for many days. Stay tuned to BL for more scoop and updates!

Veere Di Wedding: Swara Bhasker raises a valid argument, says one wouldn’t question Anurag Kashyap why his films show men mouthing abuses

She may be playing an ultra-glamorous role in her upcoming movie Veere Di Wedding, but actor Swara Bhasker says she will not compromise on the content of the film even if she is choosing an out-and-out commercial project. The actor, who has been part of critically-acclaimed projects like Nil Battey Sannata and Anaarkali of Aarah, says her past choices have made her aware of the fact that she needs to pick performance-oriented characters.

“There are people who have offered me films that were so-called glamorous but there was nothing much for me to do in them. So I didn’t do that. I have a body of work that justifies that I should have something fairly substantial to do. I can’t do something random just to be seen in a certain clothing… I will not be able to do that,” Swara told PTI.

The actor said filmmakers tend to stereotype her because of her previous films, but producer Rhea Kapoor believed in her and offered the role of Sakshi to her. “I have done more desi characters and so people assume ‘she can do only this’. Kudos to Rhea’s vision. It shows she has an imagination. Also, the fact that Rhea’s sister Sonam knows me, helped because she knows the person I am,” she said. The trailer of Veere Di Wedding, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Shikha Talsania, has got mixed response as some sections of the audience have criticised the language of the film. Swara said the makers have tried to show things in as real manner as possible.

“I think the criticism is misplaced because this film is about four young urban women, their friendship and their choices. The fact is that young urban women in India, who belong to a certain class or cultural background or lifestyle, they drink, some of them smoke, some use cuss words with friends. We are simply depicting that. It is not that it is the only thing we are showing. It is not a story about four women drinking or using cuss words, it is about friendship,” she said.

The 30-year-old actor said she cannot understand why people have a problem with language of the film. “You will never ask Anurag Kashyap why his films show men mouthing so many abuses. But when heroines like Kareena and Sonam are suddenly seen cussing, smoking and drinking, everyone’s morality is threatened. It is a really a case of misplaced morality,” she said.

Veere Di Wedding is all set to release on June 1.

Shikha Talsania hopes Veere Di Wedding will be a game-changer for her, and the industry will stop looking at her unidimensionally

Shikha Talsania, who will be seen in the upcoming film Veere Di Wedding, says there is much more to her than her body type and hopes the industry stops looking at her in a unidimensional manner. Shikha made her debut with Wake Up Sid (2009), in which she played the role of Laxmi, the accomplished and body conscious best friend of Ranbir Kapoor’s character. She was also seen in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, My Friend Pinto and Midnight’s Children, among others.

The actor says she is aware of her appearance and is open to transformation if a role demands. “Look at Aamir Khan, the way he transforms for a film. I will put on weight or lose weight, I will do it for a film. I got much fitter for Veere Di Wedding. There is much more to me than just what I look like. Everybody should think like that. I just want to act, perform. We are at a wonderful time where more well-etched out parts are being written for women. I am happy being this person, this is me,” Shikha told PTI.

Post her debut, the actor says she received similar roles and she rejected some of them as she did not want to be stereotyped. “I was hungry for work and nobody knew me. I want the entire world to know about me. I was making calls and finding out about the auditions. Auditions are nothing but part of acting. But, a lot of work that came my way was very unidimensional, like the character who is fat or despite being fat she is funny. I was not comfortable with that. There has been a lot of work to which I have said no. I hope the struggle ends,” she says. In Veere…, Shikha will be seen playing the role of Meera, who marries without her parents’ consent. “Rhea Kapoor, who is producing the film, and Karan Johar knew me from before as I had done Wake Up Sid with them. I was called by casting director Mukesh Chhabra, I did a look test and got selected,” she says.

The actor says the Shashanka Ghosh-directed film is about female bonding and their struggles in the modern-day world. “When I was reading the story, I did not see the gender. There are so many films that have male protagonist and I relate to that. The need of the hour is to have women roles with whom you can relate to. Let’s hope with Veere… some spark happens,” she says.

Shikha, who is the daughter of veteran actor Tiku Talsania, says there is often discussion about acting at home and her father appreciates her work.

The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Swara Bhasker. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Nikhil Dwivedi, Veere Di Wedding is set to release on June 1.

Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja strolling on a Sunday make for a scene straight out of a Bollywood movie – view pic

Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja are undoubtedly one of the coolest couples around. After their starry nuptials in Mumbai on May 8, the couple have been showering love on each other in every possible occasion. Today, Anand shared a picture where Sonam and he are taking a walk down a street. He captioned it as SunYAY. Both of them are wearing outfits from Bhane and sneakers. We can see how happy Sonam and Anand look in the snap. We saw how Anand wore sneakers at his wedding reception and made a statement of sorts. The couple can be seen walking hand-in-hand on a street. In one of the pictures, Anand is posing just like a Bollywood actor. The entrepreneur is scion of Shahi Exports, India’s biggest export house and the founder of Bhane. He has also founded the country’s biggest sneakers store. Their wedding was a lovely two day affair, where the couple bowled us over with their cuteness. Sonam often said that she wanted a man who was ambitious yet kind. The two qualities seldom go hand-in-hand but Anand possessed it. This is why she fell for him. Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Esha Gupta’s unflattering choices deserve a harsh punishment from the fashion police

What’s wrong with our Bollywood divas? No, really, this is a genuine question of a fashion lover. Especially divas like Jacqueline Fernandez and Sonam Kapoor who are the reigning fashionista of Bollywood. We remember Jackie’s style file during A Gentleman’s promotions that was extremely chic to the hilt. She carried some great outfits with so much panache that made us wonder if we should bookmark her outings. But instead of her fashion graph going up, it unfortunately went downhill during her recent outings for Race 3. Jackie’s recent appearances have received mixed responses from fashion aficionados and we don’t blame them. Similar is the case for her bestie, Sonam Kapoor! The diva known for her stunning choices disappointed us big time with her promotional styling for Veere Di Wedding promotions. Wonder if they were bitten by some style bug that had an opposite reaction on their mind. Joining them in the worst dressed category this week are other actresses like Aditi Rao Hydari, Esha Gupta and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Let’s elaborate on where they went wrong and how!

Sonam Kapoor

Who wears velvet in summer? Even if it has slits that could be used as an excuse to prevent all the discomfort. The green Erdem dress that she wore at Veere Di Wedding’s music launch event was a disappointment from every angle. It was saddening to see Sonam commit such a horrendous blunder especially when she boasts about loving fashion. Also Read: Sanju new poster out! All eyes on Sonam Kapoor as she joins Ranbir to show us Sanjay Dutt’s crazy, romantic life

Esha Gupta

Whatever Esha Gupta was trying to prove failed miserably. The red Anamika Khanna ruffled saree didn’t accentuate her hot bod and we even wonder why she chose it in the first place. Esha has made some stunning outings in the past and we expected so much better from her.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez’s white metallic separates from Kate Spade New York is a fashion blunder entirely. Why would she prefer such a gawdy outfit that’s too harsh on one’s eyes? Hope the actress’ future outings aren’t as bad as this one and she nails it next time.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

How can monochrome go wrong? Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is here to show us how! The black and white Andrew Gn dress that she wore for her dinner outing recently was so blah! We tried too hard to fall in love with it but no, it’s too boring for us to even take a note of it. Aditi Rao Hydari

Not that Aditi Rao Hydari is any stunner, for her outings never compel us to scream wow. Yet she manages a fair deal. But not her recent layered outfit. The Riddhima Mehra beige attire with different layers made Aditi look as pale as its colour. Not even her wine lip colour could help her pull off this ensemble well.

Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Madhuri Dixit wore some stunning ensembles this week and landed in our best-dressed category

George Clinton once said, “Style is whatever you want to do, if you can do it with confidence.” And Bollywood fashionistas like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra abide by that saying all the time. The ladies managed to impress the fashion pundits last week with their impeccable style statements. Just goes to say that stunners like Bebo and PC prefer making trends rather than following them. Joining the pretty actresses in the best dressed category this week are celebs like Jacqueline Fernandez, Madhuri Dixit Nene . Let’s delve in deeper to see how they nailed their attires.

Madhuri Dixit Nene

Madhuri has been promoting her debut Marathi film, Bucket List and while she is at it, the actress has mostly been slipping into some pretty anarkalis. Our favourite was the Anita Dongre anarkali that she paired with jewelry from Lara Morakhia. It was so pleasant to the eyes, the entire look. Hoping to see more such style statements from her.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

Kareena Kapoor Khan keeps making us go WOW with her sartorial choices. She did that yet again when she slipped into a dress from Nigerian based label, Meena that she paired with gold Aquazurra sandals. Those ruffles might seem a bit awkward, but that lovely colour made up for it. And add to it the easy breezy makeup. She looked gorgeous, as always. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka was invited by her good friend Meghan Markle to her Royal Wedding with Prince Harry. We had high expectations from her and she lived up to them, not once, but twice as she attended the reception too. And it was her outfit that she picked for the latter that impressed us more. She wore a shimmery Dior gown for the reception, that she paired with a Lady Dior bag and Lorraine Schwartz earrings. What do we say? We were just staring at her pictures that day.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam too has been promoting Veere Di Wedding and she has been experimenting a lot when it comes to her outfits and makeup. Sadly, none of them managed to get us talking, especially this House Of Kotwara suit. Her accessories included Amrapali jewelry and Fizzy Goblet jootis. Wavy hair and striking red lips finished out the look. Simple and nice. The pastel look was so summer friendly.

Jacqueline Fernandez

And since we are talking about pastels, we were a fan of what Jacqueline wore while promoting Race 3. The petal pink lehenga from the Bridal Couture Collection of JADE by Monica and Karishma was the perfect ensemble during the summers, especially in Mumbai. Light makeup, wavy tied up hair and those lovely earrings from Anmol finished her look.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma inaugurated a store in Jaipur wearing a linen sari from The Linen Club. The sari and the sleeveless blouse was perfect considering how hot it is there. She looked lovely, no complains there.
