Chennai Box office: Avengers: Infinity War rakes in Rs 2 crore in the opening weekend

On April 27th, 2018, there were no releases in India as Avengers: Infinity War, one of the biggest superhero films hit theatres worldwide. The movie had garnered a huge buzz prior to the release.The hype around Marvel’s biggest superhero film was seen to be believed. With at least 22 superheroes reuniting to fight against Thanos, the mother of all villains, the movie was anticipated to be Marvel’s very best. The advance booking for this film was unbelievable with multiplexes declaring Housefull prior to the release of the movie. Down south, the movie was also witnessed a never seen before buzz for a Hollywood film. So much so, it has dominated the Chennai Box office in the April 28-29th Weekend. It has taken on the numero uno position followed by Diya, Pakka, Mercury, Bharat Ane Nenu. As per the latest update the movie has managed to race ahead of  Stars Wars The Force Awakens to become the highest weekend opening grosser. Brace yourselves! Rajinikanth’s Kaala will host a mega event audio launch on May 9th

We have long awaited for some news on Rajinikanth‘s much awiated release – Kaala. After the Tamil Cinema Strike was called off, the makers unveiled the official release date of the gangsta film – June 7th. With a month to go, promotions will begin in full swing. In fact, it will commence on a grand note. As per the latest update, Kaala’s grand audio launch will take place on May 9th in Chennai. Thalaivar on home turf – What more does a fan want?! We are psyched along with millions of other fans as this album is created by none other than Santosh Narayanan. He is the same composer who gave us the unforgettable Nerrupu Da from Kabali in 2016 . The song became an anthem  that year with everyone headbanging to the groovy rap number. It went on to become one of the most watched video on YouTube. When the teaser was launched in March, Sanotsh Narayanan’s crackling background score could not be missed. Here was another number trying to give us a background to Kaala – a dreaded gangsta from Dharavi. He fights to protect come what may. Be ready to be beaten into pulp or have your ass kicked as far as Kaala is concerned. He might be the last man standing but he will stare death in the face without fear. Rajinikanth is seen in a signature black kurta and Mundu, playing up to his role. Along with Rajinikanth, the movie also stars Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil. The film is primarily set in Mumbai. The movie will hit theatres in June, a week prior to Race 3.

This is not the only awaited films starring Rajinikanth. His sci fi adventure, 2.0 also starring Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson was to release earlier this year but the movie got pushed to a later date. As of now there has been no offical announcement, but reports suggest the movie might see a release in August. It was one of the most expensive films made in Tamil Cinema and will release in 3D.

Dadasaheb Phalke honoured with a google doodle on his 148th birth anniversary

Today is a special day for Indian Cinema as we celebrate the birth anniversary of a renowned icon – Dhundiraj Govind Phalke aka Dadasaheb Phalke. The screenwriter-producer-director is popularly known as the father of Indian Cinema. The veteran personality marked his debut in Indian Cinema in 1913 with Raja Harishchandra which also happened to be India’s first full length feature film. Thereafter he went on to make 95 films and 27 short films! Some of his famous works include –  Shri Krishna Janma, Kaliya Mardan, Satyavan Savithri, Lanka Dahan. In 1969, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was created to acknowledge his contribution to cinema. It is one of the most recoganised awards in India Cinema. In fact a postage stamp has also been created in his honour. Not only Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia will also be conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award

For those who don’t know, Dadasaheb Phalke studied sculpture, drawing, photography, paiting, engineering when he was young. He started off a small town photographer. However, he had to leave his work to serve his ailing wife and child. Soon after, he worked as a draftsman at the Archaeological Survey Of India. However due to the job constrains, he took to the business of printing wherein he learnt  lithography and oleograph,He started his own printing press. However, his printing venture came to an end following a dispute. And that’s when he turned to films.  Raja Harishchandra, his first ever film marked the beginning of Indian Cinema.

In 2009, a film directed by Paresh Mokashi, titled –  Harishchandrachi Factory depited the story of Dadasaheb’s journey of making his first film. This movie happened to India’s first offical entry to the Oscars!

Shahid Kapoor on Arjun Reddy remake: I’m very excited that it might come to me

Actor Shahid Kapoor today neither confirmed nor denied if he is on board the Hindi remake of Telugu hit “Arjun Reddy” but said he would be excited if the project came to him. There were reports that Shahid was being considered for the title role of a man who goes down a path of self-destruction and alcoholism after a break-up.

The 2017 film starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey. When asked if he was doing the movie, Shahid quipped he had also heard the same and said he loved the Telugu original. “I’m very excited that it might come to me, that it might happen. Recently, in an interview, “Arjun Reddy” director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had confirmed the “Padmaavat” star will feature in the film. When asked about the same, Shahid said, “He also thinks I’m the right choice? Then, I have to think.” The actor was speaking at the 19th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards voting weekend.

Shahid was also supposed to reunite with “Jab We Met” director Imtiaz Ali for a film this year. When asked about its status, the actor said, “It’s not happening this year and we will probably work on something else.” He also refuted rumours that his next, “Batti Gul Meter Chalu”, will be shelved owing to financial issues and said “all is good, shooting will start again.”

Mahesh Babu would love to do a Bharath Ane Nenu sequel, says “We had content to do a five-hour film”

Telugu cinema superstar Mahesh Babu is ecstatic about his new release “Bharath Ane Nenu”, which is said to be the fastest money spinner of Telugu cinema, crossing the Rs 125 crore mark. “We knew we had a terrific film on our hands as Siva garu (director Koratala Siva) is a great storyteller. But one never knows which way the wind blows. It’s always the audience which gives the final verdict, and it’s truly overwhelming and a big thank you to all who have unanimously loved our film. It’s a very proud moment for me,” said Mahesh.

He feels a role like Bharath is not just rare, it is also a privilege to play such a powerful politically pertinent part. “It is very rare for actors to get such powerful films. The characterization of Bharath is my best till date. I will always be grateful to my director Shiva garu for conceiving this part for me.”

Mahesh says he is game for a sequel to “Bharath Ane Nenu”. “To be honest, we had content to do a five-hour film. But since we had to make it one film, we edited the content down to less than three hours. But I would love to do a sequel, if Siva Sir agrees,” said the star.

Last year it was Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which everyone was talking about on the same day. Yes, it is one year anniversary of the film’s release and we all are ready to binge watch it with its prequel. The movie starred Prabhas in the lead role and established him as one of the most successful actors across the country. The actor today, making use of the opportunity, expressed his gratitude about film’s success.

Prabhas wrote on his social media page, “Our film, Baahubali 2 completes 1 year today! This day will always remain special to me. A big hug to all my fans and lots of love back to you all. Thank you for being part of this beautiful and emotional journey of mine. China is all set to witness yet the bonanza this May with the release of Baahubali 2. The film will hit theatres there on May 4, 2018. A few days ago, Variety had reported that the film has cleared the censor scrutiny in China and that the makers were looking for a date to release it there. Baahubali 2 massacred every record in India when it released in April last year. Its Hindi dubbed version itself earned more than Rs 500 crore… something that no Khan-laced film could ever do. It’s simply magnanimous! It has set a benchmark which will not be surpassed for many years to come.

Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India trailer: Allu Arjun’s film looks like an interesting mix of romance, drama and action – watch video

The first full-fledged trailer of Allu Arjun’s 18th movie, Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India dropped today. Just the title is enough to raise one’s curiosity about the film. But when you see the trailer, your anxiousness to watch the film is going to skyrocket. Allu Arjun, as always, is at his stylish best. He plays an Indian army soldier in the film who pays the price of playing by his own role. Boman Irani plays his superior in the film. Allu’s attempts at leading life as a civilian are hampered due to his short-tempered attitude, for which he seeks help from Arjun. Though not much about where the story is headed is revealed in the trailer, it is enough to make you book your tickets ASAP. Allu Arjun’s chemistry with female lead Anu Emmanuel will also grab eyeballs. In the short trailer, there is a good mix of romance, action and drama. Check it out below.

Directed by Vakkantham Vamsi, the film also stars Anu Emmanuel, Arjun and Sarath Kumar. Best known for his writing contribution to hit films such as Kick and Temper, this project marks Vamsi’s directorial debut. Bollywood composers Vishal-Shekhar have worked on the tunes, while popular cinematographer-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi has cranked the camera for the project. Tipped to be a patriotic action film, it has been produced by Sirisha Lagadapati Sridhar and presented by Nagababu.

Allu Arjun was last seen in Duvvada Jagannadham. The film also starred Pooja Hegde. The action romantic flick fared well at the BO, as per reports. Certain reports stated the film had entered the Rs 100 crore mark. The movie opened to mixed reactions all over.
